In October 2009 I ran my first ever half marathon in possibly the world's slowest time of 2 hours 51 mins. I was dead last. But I finished, and most importantly I raised $700 for Save The Children. Now I'm racing for another great cause- the Heart Foundation. I've come a long way since that first half marathon- with a further 6 half marathons and 2 full marathons under my belt, as well as being 30 kilos lighter and a lot healthier generally. I've joined the mighty Hamilton City Hawks running club, and I'm even a sponsored runner thanks to Lotto Sportswear (see scoresportswear.co.nz)
In October I'll be tackling my third marathon- the 2011 Auckland Marathon and I'll be a "Heart Racer", trying to raise a nice big pile of cash for the Heart Foundation.

Each day 16 New Zealanders die as a result of coronary heart disease. That's one person every 90 minutes. And many of these deaths are premature and preventable. So let's all do our bit. I'll do all the hard work (train for and complete the event), but I really need you to make a difference to the hearts of New Zealanders.
