One New Zealander dies every 90 minutes as a result of coronary heart disease.
It is the single leading cause of death in New Zealand, causing 40% of all deaths here (more than cancer!).

Young adults in their 20s and 30s are being admitted to hospital for heart attacks more than ever before, and this age group is dying at a faster rate than people of the same age in previous generations.

Some of the families I have had the privelege of meeting with as a part of my PhD include children with life-limiting heart conditions. The families have amazed me in their resilience while expressing the burden that heart conditions force them to bear.

So, help me as I join the race to beat heart disease.

I've signed up as a Heart Racer to raise money to support the Heart Foundation, which funds research, cardiac rehabilitation, education programmes and resources.

I've been working hard to train for this event since July (running a marathon-42k/26mi- over the course of each week), but I really need you to make a difference to the hearts of New Zealanders.
