Cardiovascular disease (heart, stroke & blood vessel disease) is the single leading cause of death in New Zealand. It causes 40 percent of all deaths annually in our country - making it more deadly than all forms of cancer.

Some of the most influential people in my life (and my family) have died due to cardiovascular disease. The pain of losing them still very much effects me to this day. They are never far from my thoughts.

On the 20th of February I will be running for them. On this day I join the race to beat heart disease. This is because I will be running 7km in the Wellington Round the Bays to fundraise for the Heart Foundation.

The money fundraised will help the Heart Foundation continue its vital work in research, cardiac rehabilitation, education programmes and resources.

It isn't hard to donate. Just a few dollars from you can really make a huge difference to families out there (and who knows, one day you might be benefiting from the work of the Heart Foundation).
