Heart and circulatory disease is the leading cause of death in NZ [1], with 41% of Kiwi's dying from it each year. Cancer is the 2nd largest cause of death at 29% [1].
I support the Heart Foundation for a few reasons:
1) I want to raise awareness that Heart Disease is the number 1 killer in NZ, and many of these deaths are premature and preventable.
2) I want to be fit and healthy for life, and want the same for everybody else too.
3) I have a family history of Heart Disease (41% of you do too!)
4) More and more younger people are dying from Heart disease, due to poor lifestyle choices and that needs to change.
To help raise awareness I have entered the grueling Ironman NZ Triathlon 2008 to help raise money.
For those not familiar with the distance, an Ironman Triathlon is a 3.8km (2.4mile) Swim, then a 180km (112mile) bike followed by a full 42.2km (26.2mile) marathon. It takes between 8 and 17 hours to complete.
To accomplish this goal, I am training 10 hours per week (2 swimming, 3 running and 5 cycling), but I need your help. So, sponsor me as I join the race to beat heart disease.
By donating through my webpage you will be helping the Heart Foundation continue its vital work in research, cardiac rehabilitation, education programmes and resources.
Select the "Make a donation" button below. It's simple, fast and totally secure and the money goes directly to the Heart Foundation's bank account. If you live in New Zealand your donation is tax deductible and a receipt will be issued.
So please help me today! And pass it on to everyone you know!
Many thanks for your support
Ben Wright, HeartRacer
PS: If i raise over $1000 I will jump out of a plane over lake taupo.
