Hello visitor!
A couple of years back I went through an extended period of feeling pretty 'flat'. No major breakdown (for a change!) but probably the result of simply getting older I s'pose. Whatever, I decided to change things around and go out for a run! I still well remember being exhausted after that first attempt - I think I lasted two laps of a 400 metre track - and my son beat me - running backwards! Hmmm!
Anyway I kept going and with encouragement from my friends and family I was soon finishing 10K runs fairly regularly throughout the year. I finished last year by running the Auckland Half Marathon last Oct, which seemed a huge achievement at the time.
This year I set myself two major goals. Firstly to complete Oxfam's 100 K walk for Charity in April. Mission accomplished with that,in just under 24 hours with three other mad, but special, souls.
The second goal is to complete my first full marathon. I have picked the Auckland Marathon in October to try and achieve this 'out of character' landmark.
To help with my motivation, I thought it would be a good idea to raise funds for The Heart Foundation while I run. This seems a good thing to do - my Dad has had a couple of pretty serious heart scares in recent years. He's a battler though my Dad and I know he'll be out there in spirit, encouraging me all the way come October time. This one's for you Dad!
So, I’ve signed up as a Heart Racer to raise money to support The National Heart Foundation of New Zealand. By donating through my webpage you will be helping the Heart Foundation continue its vital work in research, cardiac rehabilitation, education programmes and resources.
I’ll do all the hard work (train for and complete the event), but I really need you to make a difference to the hearts of New Zealanders.
If you want to, please could you sponsor me?
Select the "Make a donation" button below. It’s simple, fast and totally secure and the money goes directly to the Heart Foundation’s bank account.
If you live in New Zealand your donation is tax deductible and a receipt will be issued.
So please help me today! And pass it on to everyone you know who might wish to support The Heart Foundation!
Thanks heaps for your support,
Joe Flynn
