Dear friends,

I've signed up for the Quarter Marathon on 31 October 2010, which is less than a week away!

With only the Christchurch Corporate Challenge (5km) and Auckland Round the Bays (8.4km) under my belt, this 10.55km run will definitely be a nice challenge.

To make it more meaningful than just a personal challenge, I'll also be running as a Heart Racer to raise money and awareness for the Heart Foundation. Did you know that 16 NZers die every day as a result of coronary heart disease? That's 1 person every 90 minutes. Cardiovascular disease (heart, stroke & blood vessel disease) is the single leading cause of death in this country. I was also alarmed to find that new research shows that young adults in their 20s and 30s like me are being admitted to hospital for heart attacks more than ever before, and that this age group is dying at a faster rate than people of the same age in previous generations. Much of this change is due to unhealthy lifestyle choices.

So please help me as I join the race to beat heart disease.
