I have decided to run the Auckland 2011 Marathon. A MARATHON! That's 42.2km! That's ridiculously far! Dad has completed two, so now I have decided its my turn! I have trained and completed my first half marathon already this year and the Auckland Marathon is going to be my next challenge. What a momentous battle it is going to be. Many have said that I am nuts, which I would agree with whole heartedly; however, a marathon is on my 'bucket list' and I feel there is no time like the present.

If I am going to put my body through immense pain and torture for 42.2km I am going to do so knowing that I am helping a very worthy charity. There is heart disease on both sides of my family and so keeping fit and healthy is extremely important. My Dad had a heart attack and two stent operations and he was as 'fit as a fiddle' hence the reason for my latest fitness kick.

I've signed up as a Heart Racer to raise money to support the Heart Foundation. By donating through my webpage you will be helping the Heart Foundation continue its vital work in research, cardiac rehabilitation, education programmes and resources.

I'll do all the hard work (train for and complete the event), but I really need you to make a difference to the hearts of New Zealanders.

Each day 16 New Zealanders die as a result of coronary heart disease. That's one person every 90 minutes. And many of these deaths are premature and preventable.

Cardiovascular disease (heart, stroke & blood vessel disease) is the single leading cause of death in New Zealand. It causes 40 percent of all deaths annually in our country - making it more deadly than all forms of cancer.

The nature of who is affected by it is changing. New research shows that young adults in their 20s and 30s are being admitted to hospital for heart attacks more than ever before, and that this age group is dying at a faster rate than people of the same age in previous generations. Much of this change is due to unhealthy lifestyles - poor eating habits, lack of physical activity and being a smoker.

But the good news is that many risk factors for heart disease are preventable, if people make healthy lifestyle choices.

So, help me as I join the race to beat heart disease.

Thanks heaps for the support everyone! Even though I immediately regretted entering in to the marathon (thinking what the hell am I doing?!!) I am determined to finish it even if I have to drag myself over the line. I can guarantee that there will be sweat, blood and most likely tears but I will do my best to do you all proud.
