Kirsty, Judy and Ian Morris, Lin Coakley, and Cate and Riwai Grace are putting our best feet forward as a whanau and taking the challenge to help ourselves and join the race to beat heart disease.

We've signed up as Heart Racer's to raise money to support The National Heart Foundation of New Zealand. By donating through our webpage you will be helping the Heart Foundation continue its vital work in research, cardiac rehabilitation, education programmes and resources.

We'll do all the hard work (train for and complete the City 2 Surf, Riwai will step out in his infamous pink tutu), some of us have arthritis so we'll do the 6km event and others will do the 12km. But we also really need you to make a difference for other hearts of New Zealanders.

Cardiovascular disease (heart, stroke & blood vessel disease) is the single leading cause of death in New Zealand.

Each day 16 New Zealanders die as a result of coronary heart disease. It causes 40 percent of all deaths annually in our country - making it more deadly than all forms of cancer. Many of these deaths are premature and preventable.

The nature of who is affected by it is changing. Much of this change is due to unhealthy lifestyles and the good news is that many risk factors for heart disease are preventable, if people make healthy lifestyle choices.

2009 is the year of change for our whanau… will it be yours too! Join us in the City 2 Surf or support us by selecting the "Make a donation" button below. Its simple, fast and totally secure and the money goes directly to the Heart Foundation’s bank account. If you live in New Zealand your donation is tax deductible and a receipt will be issued. If you prefer to donate direct to us we'll bank a lump sum each week!
