From Half-Dead to Half-Marathon!!!

Update from the race:
Fantastic weather, great people to walk and talk with, nice supporters (inc. my boss in Takapuna) along the way, made it to the cutoff at the harbour bridge (with 2 minutes to go), walked across the harbour bridge (yeah) and ended up with 3h15m29s, which is right in the ball park of expectations!!!

Each day 16 New Zealanders die as a result of coronary heart disease. And many of these deaths are premature and preventable.

The good news is that many risk factors for heart disease are preventable, if people make healthy lifestyle choices.

So, help me as I join the race to beat heart disease.

You might know, that I had a severe heart attack in early January, which forced me to change my life, if I wanted to be around for my wife, kids and grand children, wider family and friends.
The emotional stress on myself, family and friends was enormous and it took quite some time to get the feet on the ground again.
When I restarted my work at ASB, the Auckland Marathon signups came up and we decided that this was a great goal to aim for with my recovery program.
Therefore the title…

I must say that the preparation for the 21km's walk is as much fun as hopefully the event will be.
I have never done more than 10km, even in my best days, so it is really a stretch for me. I aim to be done in 3-3.5 hours, which would mean that I can walk across the Harbour Bridge, which is a big motivator as well.

I've signed up as a Heart Racer to raise money to support the Heart Foundation.
