On Sunday 20 February 2011, we're doing the Wellington Round the Bays half marathon. I should be honest at this point. By "doing", I mean most of us are walking. Honorary Hogg Steve will be running. Good on him. Someone had to.

As well as being Team Hogg, we're also Heart Racers - doing this to raise money for the Heart Foundation - a very worthy charity and one that has a big job in New Zealand. Here's why: each day 16 New Zealanders die as a result of coronary heart disease. That's one person every 90 minutes. That's a lot of people. And many of these deaths are premature and preventable.

I could quote a lot more of the statistics that the Heart Foundation provided in setting up this webpage. They make for pretty grim reading. Suffice to say, I suspect that most of us have probably felt the impact of heart disease in one way or another.

While (touch wood) no one in my immediate circle of friends and family has suffered directly from heart disease, our beloved James died in May 2007 when his heart skipped a beat for too long in a jazz bar in London. We have missed him every single day since then and so a part of why we're doing this is for him.

But that's enough about us, here's where you come in!

We'd love you to help us help the Heart Foundation help the hearts of others - either by joining Team Hogg (the more the merrier!), by coming out on the day to wipe us up off the finish line, or by sparing a few coins for the Heart Foundation.

If you want to do the latter, donating is really easy: just select the "Make a donation" button below. It's simple, fast and totally secure and the money goes directly to the Heart Foundation's bank account. If you live in New Zealand your donation is tax deductible and a receipt will be issued.
