Hi there, in September I will be pounding the pavements in Petone, for the ' Pelorus Trust Half Marathon/10km Fun Run & Walk '. I will be racing in the 10km event in an effort to raise funds for the Heart Foundation.

" I encourage everyone, both young and old, to live a healthy lifestyle and get active, your heart will thank you for it! "

As a first time Heart Racer, I think it is important to do something good not only for your own heart but that of others. I have had family members who have had problems with their hearts, therefore this is a charity that means a lot to me and my family.

I'll do all the hard work (train for and complete the event), but I really need you to make a difference to the hearts of New Zealanders.

STATS:
Each day 16 New Zealanders die as a result of coronary heart disease. That's one person every 90 minutes. And many of these deaths are premature and preventable.

Cardiovascular disease (heart, stroke & blood vessel disease) is the single leading cause of death in New Zealand. It causes 40 percent of all deaths annually in our country - making it more deadly than all forms of cancer.

The Heart Foundation are doing vital work in research, cardiac rehabilitation, education programmes and resources.
