Danielle Cubis - Doing it for my Dad
Danielle is, in her own words, "not a runner," but she will compete as a Heart Racer in the adidas Auckland Marathon in memory of her father, who recently passed away after a sudden heart attack.
"Dad was a really active guy who had never had any heart problems or chest pain before, so it came as a shock," says Danielle.
"He ran marathons himself as a young man, so, for me, running in the adidas Auckland Marathon is a great way to remember him. As extra motivation, I am keen to help the Heart Foundation and its work."
With a family history of cardiovascular disease, Danielle is using the adidas Auckland Marathon to kick-start her own heart health efforts.
"I had been thinking about my fitness and ways I could improve my health, so the marathon is a good challenge to work to," she says.
Danielle is well on the way to reaching her fundraising target and is pleased the Heart Foundation will benefit from her efforts.
"I did Jump Rope for Heart at school, and utilise Pick the Tick when I’m grocery shopping, so the Heart Foundation has an ongoing impact on my life. Considering that, and my dad’s memory, this is a great chance to give something back."
