Mt Eden mum gives it a go in memory of her father
When Robyn Cory-Wright heard that the Heart Foundation was the official charity for the adidas Auckland marathon, she decided to make her first-ever half
marathon effort at the event in memory of her Father. The mum of young school-age children, Robyn has always been fit, regularly walking and running, but has never attempted the distance of a half marathon.
But the news that she could become a 'Heart Racer', and dedicate her efforts at the marathon to the Heart Foundation and raise donations while doing it, made her sit up and decide to give it a go.
Robyn’s father had died of heart disease 18 months ago, and since then, she’d decided she wanted to help stop other families from going through the same pain and suffering hers had.
Robyn knew of the good work of the Heart Foundation, which funds heart research, works with the community to help educate people about how to reduce their risk of heart disease, and helps people who have heart disease to recover from it.
Several months ago she offered to volunteer there in her spare time to lend a hand to the charity, and has recently become a member of the Auckland Volunteer branch.
Robyn set herself a goal of raising $500 for the Heart Foundation and ended up raising over $1,000.
