If you're reading this then the answer is yes!

Yes - I've decided to take on the Auckland Marathon on 30 October 2011. Nuts!

To be honest - the distance is scaring the hell out of me. I've tackled some pretty big sporting goals in the past [180km bike rides, 1/2 marathons at short notice, climbed active volcanoes, basketball titles etc] but this is up right there.

I'm not sure what has been harder - training for the marathon or maintaining my drinking schedule while attending the RWC at the same time. So far I'm doing both pretty well!

This is a big year for me personally [clocking up 40 years] but the opportunity to complete this run and raise money for a good cause at the same time sounded very rewarding.

Each day 16 New Zealanders die as a result of coronary heart disease - that's one person every 90 minutes. That’s too many and most deaths are premature and preventable.

Heart disease [heart, stroke & blood vessel disease etc] causes 40 percent of all deaths annually in New Zealand. This makes it more deadly than all forms of cancer, and who it affected is changing.

New research shows that young adults in their 20s and 30s are being admitted to hospital for heart attacks more than ever before. Much of this change is due to unhealthy lifestyles - poor eating habits, lack of physical activity [play station has a lot to answer for!] and smoking.

But the good news is that heart disease is preventable should people make healthy lifestyle choices.

Anyway, help me as I join the race to beat heart disease.

I've signed up as a Heart Racer to raise money to support the Heart Foundation. By donating through my webpage you will be helping the Heart Foundation continue its vital work in research, cardiac rehabilitation, education programmes and resources.

I'll do all the hard work on the day, but I really need you to make a difference to the hearts of New Zealanders by making a donation.

So, open your wallets!

Select the "make a donation" button below. It's simple, fast and totally secure and the money goes directly to the Heart Foundation's bank account.

If you live in New Zealand your donation is also tax deductible and a receipt will be issued.

Heart related issues have had an impact on my family and I'm sure there is a close connection for you, your family or people you know.

My training schedule over the next 5 weeks consists of 4 runs per week. 3 mid week ranaging from 10-18km's with a big run on the weekends.

My remaining 'big runs' schedule is as follows:

Weekend 6 - 28km's - Done!
Weekend 5 - 30km's - Stomach virus! No run for 5 days! Finished the week with 2 recovery runs up to 15km.
Weekend 4 - 34km's - did 12, 18km run, 21 and the 30km runs during the week. Need to put in a run this weekend to get back on track!
Weekend 3 - 36km's - done!
Weekend 2 - 20km's
Weekend 1 - Marathon Day!

Your help will be gratefully appreciated.
Many thanks for your support!

Cheers,

Glenn
