Last year was a fantastic event for the MCG Whanau. This year we have teamed up with Leap Fitness & Motivation and Diamond Fitness to encourage more people to complete the event.

Riwai is back this time in a green tutu promoting Green Light to Fitness! Ngaire is 84 and suffered a stroke in 2002 - but even she doesn't want to miss out this year so Cate is going to push her in a wheelchair.

We've signed up as Heart Racer's to raise money to support The National Heart Foundation of New Zealand. By donating through our webpage you will be helping the Heart Foundation continue its vital work in research, cardiac rehabilitation, education programmes and resources.

We'll do all the hard work (train for and complete the City 2 Surf, Riwai will step out in his new green tutu), We will have a team at the 6km and 12km event. We really need you to make a difference for other hearts of New Zealanders. So, please could you sponsor us? Cardiovascular disease (heart, stroke & blood vessel disease) is the single leading cause of death in New Zealand.

Each day 16 New Zealanders die as a result of coronary heart disease. It causes 40 percent of all deaths annually in our country - making it more deadly than all forms of cancer. Many of these deaths are premature and preventable.

The nature of who is affected by it is changing. Much of this change is due to unhealthy lifestyles and the good news is that many risk factors for heart disease are preventable, if people make healthy lifestyle choices.
