I DID IT!!!!
I ran the 1/2 marathon with a finish time of 2 hours 12 minutes 53 seconds.
Earlier this year I came up with the crazy idea of running the Auckland 1/2 Marathon in October 2006 with a finish time of 2.5hours.
What ever possessed me to do such a thing I have no idea, but here I am doing it!
When I first started running it was incredibly tough as I had no idea what I got myself into.
My first run only lasted 100m. It started of like this… run, jog, walk, stumble, drag and collapse!!!
I cannot belive how much my fitness lacked back then!!! It took me about 3 days to recover from that brief run!!!
I honestly thought 21.1 kms would be a piece of cake!!!! Boy was I wrong!!!
However I didn't give up and kept training hard over the weeks. And the results are now starting to show!!
To prove to you that I am up for the challenge, I ran 18km in 120 minutes last week How absolutly crazy is that! I am averaging around 6.6 minutes per km.
The Heart foundation also think I'm up for the challenge as they recently as me to feature in the local news paper on their behalf. I got on the 2nd page, with a good sized article and a great looking running photo!! hahah
I know that I can do this, but to add more motivation and satisfaction to this crazy idea I have decided to sign up as a Heart Racer to raise money to support The National Heart Foundation of New Zealand.
The Heart Foundation does some incredible work. One of the most important and useful work that they do is provide some amazing educational pamphlets and tools for Healthcare professionals like me to use in educating our patients.
We are so luckly that we get these resources free of charge, and that is why it is so important to help the Heart Foundation continue to get donations so this money can be used wisely to educate the people of New Zealand about their health and of course their hearts!!
By donating through my webpage not only will you help the Heart Foundation provide awesome resources but you will also be helping the Heart Foundation continue its vital work in research, cardiac rehabilitation, education programmes and resources.
Go on you can do it….
I’ll do all the hard work (train for and complete the event), but I really need you to make a difference to the hearts of New Zealanders.
So please reward all my hard earned running steps by donating a few dollars for a truly worthy cause, that one day may need to help you!
Please help me today and add that extra bit of enthusiasm and motivation to my running!
You can follow my journey to the 1/2 marathon at http://ruth-maria.blogspot.com
Many thanks for your support and see you at the finish line!!!
:) Ruth
P.S In regards to Craig's donation comment! I AM GOING TO MAKE IT AND I"M GOING TO BEAT YOUR TIME!!!!!
How to donate… Select the "Make a donation" button below. It’s simple, fast and totally secure and the money goes directly to the Heart Foundation’s bank account.
If you live in New Zealand your donation is tax deductible and a receipt will be issued.
